I first discovered Sacha Black with her excellent books: ’13 Steps to Evil – How to Craft Superbad Villains’ and ‘10 Steps to Hero – How to Craft a Kickass Protagonist.’
I was impressed enough to write a short review on ‘Villains’ in which I gave the book 5 stars for usefulness and entertainment value.
I highly recommend both these books if you are working on developing your writing craft. My own villain certainly owes a lot to Sacha’s advice and my readers hate him. And besides being a great source of advice and insight into your writing craft, the books are a great read. Sacha is a talented story-teller even when she’s not actually telling a story.
Here’s a sample page from Sacha’s website: ‘Happy Villaintines’ that will give you an idea of her approach.
Since I first read those books, Sacha has brought out a new service offering critique on characters, ‘voice’ and plotting. I was fortunate enough for her to do this for me in an assessment of my main villain (Klempner in the ‘Charlotte’ stories) and it was an enormous help. Before Sacha ran an eye over him, I already felt Klempner was pretty hot as a villain, but once I read her comments and applied them, he developed beautifully and is now completely loathsome… lol!
Anyway, here’s a link to her site. I am very happy to recommend her service.
